Tiverton restaurant weighs reopening after vehicle damages outdoor dining area
A car struck Macray’s Seafood on Saturday, damaging the building and destroying its outdoor tiki area. Owner Mike Napolitano estimates repairs could cost $50,000 to $80,000, and says no one was hurt.
Macray’s Seafood in Tiverton is closed while crews clean up damage after a car crashed into the restaurant’s outdoor dining area Saturday morning, Oct. 10, according to owner Mike Napolitano.
Napolitano said the impact damaged the building and destroyed the restaurant’s outdoor tiki area. He estimated repairs could cost between $50,000 and $80,000, and said the loss of the tent and patio could affect the business for the rest of the season.
The owner said a young man who was learning to drive was behind the wheel. The driver’s parents had asked him to turn the car around, Napolitano said, before it struck the restaurant. No one was injured.
Napolitano said he initially thought the impact was an earthquake. He was unsure whether the restaurant would reopen immediately, but said he plans to take additional safety precautions before next season.
Despite the damage, Napolitano said he was not angry with the family and was grateful that nobody was hurt.
