Medical examiner links two sets of remains found in downtown Portland
The remains, discovered nearly a week apart at two downtown sites, belonged to the same 38-year-old man, officials said. Police have not released his identity or the circumstances of his death; toxicology testing is pending.
The Oregon State Medical Examiner has confirmed that human remains found at two downtown Portland locations in October belonged to the same 38-year-old man, Portland police said Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2026.
The discoveries were made about six days apart by crews contracted to clean up homeless encampments. The first was reported Oct. 13 near Southwest Harvey Milk Street and Naito Parkway. The second was found Oct. 19 near West Burnside Street and Interstate 405. Police said the locations were roughly half a mile to a mile apart.
The medical examiner’s initial examination found no specific abnormalities or injuries, according to police. Toxicology results are still pending. Authorities have not released the man’s name or details about how the remains came to be at the two locations.
Portland police detectives are investigating. Anyone with information can email the Police Bureau’s Homicide Unit at homicidetips@police.portlandoregon.gov and reference case No. 26-304859.
