Trump trademark affiliate seeks control of .trump internet domain
A company managing Donald Trump’s trademarks has applied to run the .trump domain for websites and services linked to the Trump Organization. The application is part of a new round of internet-address proposals that includes more than 1,000 requests.
A company affiliated with the Trump Organization has applied to operate the .trump internet domain, proposing to use it for both internal corporate systems and public-facing websites and services tied to the family’s businesses.
The application was filed by DTTM TLD, LLC, an affiliate of DTTM Operations, which manages Donald Trump’s trademarks. It was among more than 1,000 applications for new top-level domains announced Wednesday, Oct. 7, by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, the nonprofit that coordinates the internet’s domain-name system.
A top-level domain is the final part of an internet address, such as “.com.” DTTM TLD’s filing says it intends to use .trump across the broader Trump Organization network. The company currently uses .com for its main website; the application does not mean that .trump has been approved or is available for use.
Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr. are named in the application as representatives of DTTM TLD. Also listed are Alan Garten, the organization’s chief legal officer, and Michael Levchuck, director of finance for its hotels in New York and Washington, D.C.
The proposal would put a family business’s name in a new category of internet addresses if regulators approve it. ICANN’s review process will determine whether the requested domain can be added to the global domain-name system.
