Missile strike at Riyadh airport kills 12, injures more than 300
A missile attack at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh killed 12 people and wounded more than 300, Saudi civil aviation authorities said. The strike, which Saudi officials have not publicly attributed, was reported as the deadliest attack in a Gulf Arab country since the Iran war began.
A missile struck a complex containing two domestic-flight terminals at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, killing 12 people and injuring more than 300, Saudi civil aviation authorities said early Sunday, Oct. 11. Some of the injured were in critical condition, and others were being treated at several hospitals, the authorities said.
The dead included four Saudi citizens and nationals of Bangladesh, Palestine, the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Sudan. Saudi authorities did not identify who was responsible for the attack.
The strike was reported as the deadliest in a Gulf Arab country since the start of the Iran war. Fighting has also intensified between Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen and government forces supported by Saudi Arabia.
The airport had come under attack several times in the preceding week, with four people killed in those incidents, according to the report. The latest casualties are likely to increase Saudi Arabia’s calls for military support from allies, including the United States.
