Hegseth says Hasan execution would be public firing squad at Fort Hood

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth says the Army plans to execute Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan by firing squad on Dec. 3, with the public allowed to watch. If carried out, it would be the military’s first execution in more than 60 years and the first public execution in the United States in nearly a century.

Hegseth says Hasan execution would be public firing squad at Fort Hood
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Thursday that the U.S. military plans to execute Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan by firing squad at Fort Hood, where Hasan killed 13 people in 2009, and make the execution public. Hasan is scheduled to die Dec. 3, according to the announcement. Hegseth said in an interview with Real America’s Voice that soldiers would carry out the execution and that officials would allow people to watch, arguing that the public should understand the consequences of such crimes. The execution would be the first carried out by the U.S. military in more than 60 years. A public execution would also be unprecedented in the modern era; the United States has not held one in nearly 100 years. The Trump White House has described Hasan’s crimes as terrorism. Hegseth’s announcement did not provide further details about how public access would be arranged.
