The FBI searched a Beverly Hills mansion connected to businessman Stephen Cloobeck on Tuesday, Oct. 27, as part of an ongoing criminal investigation, federal officials said.
The home is listed in Cloobeck’s California business filings. An FBI spokesperson in Los Angeles said agents were executing a federal search warrant. A Justice Department spokesperson confirmed the search was tied to an active investigation but did not provide details. The warrant affidavit remains sealed, and the FBI said no arrests were planned.
Cloobeck, a billionaire and former California gubernatorial candidate, donated more than $1 million to support former Rep. Eric Swalwell after Swalwell announced his candidacy. Cloobeck later said he had severed ties with Swalwell after sexual assault allegations against the former lawmaker emerged.
Swalwell resigned from Congress and ended his gubernatorial campaign. He has denied the allegations. The Justice Department has opened a separate criminal investigation into Swalwell, including an FBI search of his Washington home in August.
Cloobeck was arrested in May after Los Angeles County prosecutors accused him of trying to impede victim or witness testimony. He was released on bail and pleaded not guilty to all counts in August. The allegations have not been proven in court.
Cloobeck and his attorney did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said it did not take part in Tuesday’s FBI search.
