Race-discrimination claims against Cardinals and Bidwill referred to NFL arbitration
A federal judge sent claims by two former Arizona Cardinals employees alleging race-based discriminatory treatment to an NFL arbitration process. The league commissioner’s office will take part in selecting the arbitrator.
Two former Arizona Cardinals staff members have accused team principal owner Michael Bidwill and the NFL franchise of treating them discriminatorily because of their race, and their claims will be heard through league arbitration rather than proceeding in court.
A federal judge referred the employment-related disputes to arbitration, finding that the former employees’ contracts require that process. The NFL commissioner’s office is to participate in choosing the arbitrator.
The claimants are a former coach and a former executive assistant. The judge’s decision addresses how the disputes will be handled; it does not resolve the discrimination allegations.
