A boy and a man were hospitalized after a shooting outside Versalles Reception Hall in Mesa early Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026, police said. Both had injuries authorities described as non-life-threatening.
The incident began around 1:05 a.m. near Main Street and Stapley Drive, when a boy who had been turned away from a private event drew a handgun and fired at a security guard, according to police. The boy then ran toward a vehicle, and the guard and an off-duty Mesa police officer followed and fired at him.
The boy fled south across Main Street, where he encountered an on-duty Mesa officer. Police said he dropped the handgun and was taken into custody without further incident. He was treated at a local hospital.
A man inside a vehicle associated with the boy was also hit by gunfire and hospitalized. Police did not say who fired the shots that injured either person. The off-duty officer and security guard were not hurt, and authorities reported no bystander injuries.
Scottsdale police will lead the investigation into the shooting as part of the East Valley Critical Incident Response Team, a multi-agency group that investigates critical incidents involving law enforcement. Mesa police are separately investigating the aggravated assault that preceded the shooting.
