Phoenix man charged after woman found gravely injured beneath pickup dies

A 54-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Kiersten Fabiani, who was found badly injured beneath a pickup truck in a north Phoenix backyard earlier this month.

Anthony Keith Errigo Jr. was arrested Monday, Oct. 19, in connection with Fabiani’s death. She was found Oct. 8 at a home near 40th Street and Greenway Road after a 911 caller discovered her bleeding and unresponsive. She was taken to a hospital but died 10 days later.

Investigators determined that Fabiani, 61, had been assaulted and that her death was a homicide. Prosecutor Ashley Stetson said in court Tuesday that an autopsy found she died from blunt-force trauma. She also had head lacerations, bleeding in the brain, broken ribs and a neck injury consistent with strangulation, Stetson said.

According to court records, surveillance video showed Fabiani and Errigo entering the backyard. Errigo was later seen returning to wash his hands and shoes with a hose. The homeowner had hired Errigo to work at the property; neither he nor Fabiani lived there.

Errigo told police he fought with Fabiani and hit her in the head several times with a vehicle jack stand, according to court documents. He also said he punched her and washed off blood, then discarded the clothes he had been wearing, authorities said.

Police said cell phone records placed Errigo at the home around the time of the assault, though his phone appeared to have been turned off and on several times. Investigators tracked him to a motel and later arrested him near 29th Avenue and Bell Road.

Court documents say Errigo acknowledged turning off his phone and leaving it at a friend’s home so investigators could not track him. Five people were at the property around the time Fabiani was found, but none told police they witnessed the assault.

Errigo is also charged with aggravated assault and tampering with evidence. He is being held on a $1 million cash-only bond. The charges are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
