The shooting was reported around 2 a.m. The scene remained active later that morning, and police asked residents to avoid the area. Southbound Country Club Drive was closed between 6th and 5th streets, while 6th Street was closed west of Country Club Drive.

Video from the scene showed officers with guns drawn searching nearby and a police helicopter overhead. Mesa police had not released details about injuries or whether a suspect was in custody. A department spokesperson was expected to provide additional information.

The incident was reported as the 40th officer-involved shooting in Maricopa County and the 69th in Arizona this year.
