Tijuana officials say woman found there is missing Seligman resident Shayna Feinman; family questions identification
Authorities in Tijuana say they found Shayna Feinman, missing from Seligman since March 2024, but her sister and Yavapai County investigators say they cannot confirm the woman’s identity. The sheriff’s office is investigating the development.
A woman found in Tijuana on Oct. 23 has been identified by local authorities there as Shayna Feinman, a Seligman resident who has been missing since March 2024. Feinman’s family and the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office say they are not yet convinced the identification is correct.
Tijuana’s security force said officers located the woman in the city’s Encino neighborhood after receiving reports of someone matching Feinman’s description. Officials said she was taken to a safe location while awaiting contact with relatives and U.S. authorities.
The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office said it has not independently verified the woman’s identity, citing insufficient evidence. Feinman’s sister, Kara, said she did not recognize the person in Mexico and has no definitive evidence that the woman is her sister. She also said the family has received reports of possible sightings before, which proved difficult to substantiate.
Feinman, 35, was reported missing on March 9, 2024, after leaving to walk to a friend’s house, according to the sheriff’s office. Two men were arrested in August 2024 in connection with her disappearance on allegations of murder. Her family continued to hope she would return.
Authorities have not said how the woman may have ended up in Mexico. The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office said it is investigating the new lead.
