Eagles QB Jalen Hurts to miss remainder of season while treated for lung clots
Doctors found blood clots in both of Jalen Hurts’ lungs, ending the Philadelphia quarterback’s season. The Eagles say he is stable and expect him to make a full recovery.
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts will miss the rest of the season after further testing found blood clots in his lungs, the team said Monday, Oct. 19, 2026.
Hurts was first diagnosed with a superficial vein clot in his left calf by a specialist in London, according to the Eagles. After additional testing and monitoring, the diagnosis was updated to deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary emboli in both lungs.
The team said Hurts is stable and has no significant functional limitations. His treatment is expected to last at least three months and include anticoagulant medication, or blood thinners. Because of the medication, he cannot take part in contact activities.
“Jalen’s prognosis is very good, and we expect a full recovery,” the team said in a statement. It said Hurts would stay involved with the team and continue conditioning, and that he could return to contact football once he is no longer taking blood thinners. The Eagles said they do not expect long-term effects.
The diagnosis rules out the quarterback for the remainder of the season, leaving Philadelphia without its starting quarterback as it continues its campaign. The team has not provided further details about Hurts’ treatment.
