Two women die after shooting inside East Mount Airy home set ablaze
Two women died after being found shot inside a burning home in Philadelphia’s East Mount Airy neighborhood early Monday, police said. Fire crews and other first responders were called at about 3:45 a.m. to a home on the 8200 block of Williams Avenue. Officials also received reports of a shooting at the property around that time. The women had both been shot in the head, police said, and died after being taken to a nearby hospital. The fire was brought under control by about 4:30 a.m. Police said the deaths may be connected to an armed man who barricaded himself on a SEPTA bus in the Fox Chase section of Philadelphia on Monday morning. Authorities did not provide further details about the possible connection. Police had not released the women’s identities or announced a suspect or a cause of the fire. The investigation was ongoing. Philadelphia had recorded 133 reported homicides through Oct. 11, according to police statistics, about 24% fewer than at the same point in 2025.
