Three people shot at North 20th Street home in Philadelphia; one woman critically hurt
Three people were wounded in a shooting Wednesday morning at a North Philadelphia home, where police said nearly two dozen shots were fired. A 27-year-old woman was in critical condition; two other victims were reported stable.
Three people were injured in a shooting at a home on the 2800 block of North 20th Street in North Philadelphia around 10 a.m. Wednesday, police said. Nearly two dozen shots were fired inside and outside the residence.
A 49-year-old woman was shot 11 times, and a 29-year-old man was shot three times in the leg. Both were taken to a hospital in stable condition. A 27-year-old woman, shot six times, was hospitalized in critical condition.
A relative of the victims, who asked not to be identified, said she arrived after the shooting and saw blood and bullet casings on the street. “I just hope that everybody recovers,” she said.
The shooting unsettled neighbors, including residents who said gun violence has become a familiar fear. Arlacey Chambers, who has lived in the neighborhood for eight years, said she has witnessed shootings before, including one at a nearby store. Residents still try to keep their block clean and organized, she said, but “you just never know.”
Elyce Rivera said the violence worries her because she has three children, ages 14, 8 and 3. The possibility of gunfire leaves her family on edge, she said, noting that her husband is often outside: “Bullets have no names on them.”
Police have not said what led to the shooting or announced any arrests. Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact police.
