Temple University is investigating a reported rape at University Village, an off-campus apartment building for students on the 1700 block of North 10th Street, the university’s crime log says.
The incident was reported to have happened at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, and was reported to Temple on Tuesday morning, Oct. 13. The case has been referred to the university’s student conduct process.
Because the residence is privately owned and off campus, Temple is handling the allegations under its Student Conduct Code, a university spokesperson said. That process allows Temple to investigate and impose consequences under university policy, the spokesperson said.
Students who report sexual assault can decide whether to take part in a criminal investigation. Temple said officials do not believe there is a threat to the community and that the university is investigating.
Temple previously announced that students, faculty and staff would review its existing practices and recommend changes to administrators amid recent sexual assault allegations at Cornell University. The university has not announced findings or recommendations from that review.
