Parkland student, 15, dies after tree branch injury near Allentown parkway

A 15-year-old Parkland High School student died Sunday, Oct. 25, nearly a month after a falling tree branch struck him near Little Lehigh Parkway in Allentown, authorities said.

The student was injured around 9 a.m. Sept. 26 on the 1300 block of Oxford Drive. He was reportedly with members of his school’s cross-country team at the time. He died at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Cedar Crest, 29 days after the incident.

The Lehigh County coroner’s office said the death resulted from complications of multiple blunt-force injuries and was accidental. The office did not release the student’s name, saying his family should have privacy as they grieve.

Parkland High School said after the September incident that it was making counseling available to students and staff. The student’s death is a loss for the school community, where classmates and colleagues may be coping with the sudden tragedy.
