Fire investigators examine fatal vehicle blaze near Philadelphia airport
A man was found dead in a burned vehicle in a South Philadelphia parking lot early Sunday. Authorities have not identified him or determined how he died or what caused the fire.
A man was found dead inside a vehicle after it caught fire early Sunday in a parking lot on Enterprise Avenue, across from Philadelphia International Airport, police said.
The fire was reported shortly after 2 a.m. Oct. 18 at the lot of Pendergast Safety Company. Investigators have not determined the cause of the blaze or how the man died. The fire’s intensity has so far prevented authorities from confirming his identity.
An employee working nearby said the fire sounded like an explosion. That account has not established what caused the blaze.
Philadelphia police, the Fire Marshal’s Office and the department’s Crime Scene Unit spent hours examining the vehicle and surrounding area. Fire Marshal investigators also brought a dog to help with the investigation.
The parking lot is in a typically low-traffic area, particularly in the early hours of Sunday. Authorities have not released additional details about the investigation.
