Croydon car-theft attempt ends in gunfire, stolen trucks and damage to homes

Gunfire erupted in a Croydon neighborhood around 4 a.m. Friday after a resident interrupted an attempted vehicle theft, neighbors said. The suspects did not get that vehicle, but residents said they stole at least two others and fired at the person who confronted them.

Bullets hit nearby property, including a Dodge vehicle, a garage wall and another home. Some pierced the Dodge; others lodged in the garage wall.

One of the stolen vehicles was a truck belonging to Kyle Brooks, who said he had bought it only days earlier. Brooks uses the truck for his roofing and siding business, and it contained tools, equipment and paperwork. Its whereabouts were unknown.

Brooks said the gunfire in a residential neighborhood concerned him more than the cost of replacing the truck. “It’s just a shame that you’ve got to fire shots off for innocent people just because you’re annoyed,” he said.

Brooks said he filed a report with Bristol Township police. He and other residents have video footage of the incident, but it was not clear how many suspects authorities are seeking.
