Tulsa to welcome Oklahoma’s first IKEA on Friday
The 51,000-square-foot store in Tulsa Hills will open Oct. 23, ending the need for Oklahoma shoppers to travel to Texas for the nearest IKEA. A community celebration is scheduled before the store opens to customers.
Oklahoma’s first IKEA is set to open Friday, Oct. 23, at Tulsa Hills Shopping Center, bringing the Swedish furniture retailer to a state whose residents previously had to travel out of state to shop at one of its stores.
The new store is on Olympia Avenue and spans 51,000 square feet, with more than 5,000 products. Until now, the nearest IKEA to Oklahoma was in Frisco, Texas.
A community celebration is planned to begin at 8 a.m., with raffles, coffee and treats. The store’s grand opening is scheduled for 10 a.m.; it will remain open until 8 p.m. Regular hours will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
IKEA, founded in Sweden in 1943, is known for ready-to-assemble home furnishings and operates stores around the world. The company said its Oklahoma location is intended to make its shopping experience more accessible to people in the state.
