A Lafayette Parish sheriff’s deputy rescued an 8-year-old child from a pond on Sept. 6 after the child was reported missing, according to the sheriff’s office.
Cpl. Jared Havard entered the water in full uniform after witnesses on the bank told officers the child had gone underwater. The child, who is nonverbal and has autism, was brought safely back to shore and later reunited with family, the office said. No injuries were reported.
The sheriff’s office shared body-camera footage of the rescue. Officials did not provide further details about where the child was reported missing or how long the search lasted.
