Tallahassee police investigate shooting near Florida A&M after homecoming game

At least 12 people were injured in a shooting near Florida A&M University in Tallahassee on Saturday, Oct. 24, after a football game during the school’s homecoming weekend, police said. Six of those injured were children.

The shooting happened around 8 p.m. in a crowded area near Perry Street and the university’s football stadium. Tallahassee police Chief Lawrence Revell said officers were already nearby when an altercation broke out. Police said their preliminary investigation indicates the fight came before the shooting.

Eleven people suffered gunshot wounds, and at least three were seriously injured, according to police. A victim’s grandmother was hurt while trying to flee. One of the injured people is a Florida A&M student. No deaths had been reported, and police said no arrests had been made.

Student Jayden Dubois told WCTV he heard several shots, then saw people running. He said he was knocked down in the crowd and saw someone lying on the ground when he got back up.

Florida A&M said the incident occurred near campus and that the campus remained safe. The university urged people to avoid the area while police investigated and expressed sympathy for those injured and affected.
