Cleveland County deputies recover escaped caiman from creek near homes
A caiman missing for months was captured Tuesday night in a creek behind residences in Cleveland County and returned to its owner. The sheriff’s office had asked residents to watch for the animal after it went missing near South Sunnylane and East Indian Hills roads in August.
A caiman that had been loose in Cleveland County for months was captured Tuesday night in a creek behind homes and returned to its owner, the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office said.
The sheriff’s office had asked the public for help finding the reptile in August, after it went missing near South Sunnylane Road and East Indian Hills Road. At the time, officials urged residents in the area to keep an eye on their pets.
The animal was later reported near homes. Deputies with the sheriff’s office’s Adam Night Shift crew responded to reports and remained involved in the search, which ended with the capture Tuesday night.
Caimans are predatory reptiles in the alligator family. They are native to Central and South America and are not native to Oklahoma.
