Tennessee assistant William Inge begins rehabilitation after hospital discharge

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee linebackers coach William Inge has been discharged from the University of Tennessee Medical Center and has started rehabilitation, he said in a statement released Wednesday, Oct. 14.

Inge, 52, said he left the hospital Tuesday after nearly three weeks of treatment. He has not disclosed the medical issue that led to his hospitalization last month.

“I have begun the rehab process, and I am getting stronger by the day,” Inge said. He thanked hospital staff for their care and expressed gratitude to his family, the team and Tennessee supporters for their messages and encouragement.

Inge also said he would be cheering for the Volunteers this weekend, writing, “There’s nothing like the Third Saturday in October.”

Head coach Josh Heupel had offered an encouraging update after Tennessee’s win over Arkansas last Saturday, describing Inge’s recovery as “a true miracle.” Inge’s statement Wednesday was his first public update since that hospital stay began.

Inge joined Heupel’s staff in 2024 after two seasons as Washington’s co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. He helped the Huskies win the 2023 Pac-12 championship and reach the College Football Playoff national championship game in January 2024.
