White County owner says 10 unweaned Borzoi puppies vanished from backyard
Sandra Moore says the five-week-old puppies disappeared from their pen Tuesday morning and that their mother returned with a cut on her face. A Craigslist listing she found is now a lead for investigators, but the puppies’ owner says they need care urgently because they have not been weaned or vaccinated.
WHITE COUNTY, Tenn. — A White County woman is trying to locate 10 five-week-old Borzoi puppies she says were taken from a backyard pen Tuesday morning. Their mother, Emira, returned with a cut across her face, the owner said.
Sandra Moore said she let the puppies outside around 5:30 a.m. to spend time with their mother. About an hour later, she returned with food and found the puppies gone.
Moore initially wondered whether they had gotten out on their own, but said the pen’s gate had to be unfastened and woven through to open. She believes someone took them.
On Wednesday, Moore said, she found a Craigslist listing that appeared to offer the puppies for sale. White County authorities are working to subpoena information tied to the account, a process Moore said could take several days. The listing and the puppies’ whereabouts have not been independently confirmed.
The puppies have not yet been weaned from their mother and have not received vaccinations, Moore said. She normally keeps puppies for three to six months before placing them in permanent homes and worries the litter could be at risk without appropriate care.
“I would be happy to buy these dogs back,” Moore said. “I just don’t want my dogs to die.”
Moore asked anyone who recognizes the puppies or has information about their disappearance to contact the White County Sheriff’s Office.
