Two Nashville teenagers killed in crash near Antioch Park
A 16-year-old driver and 17-year-old passenger died after their car overturned and caught fire in South Nashville early Oct. 10. Police say officers had seen the vehicle speeding and running a red light shortly before the wreck.
Two teenagers died early Saturday, Oct. 10, after a car crashed and caught fire near the Antioch Park Community Center in South Nashville, police said.
The victims were identified as Diego Perez Lopez, 16, who was driving, and Yosgar Joshua Cortez, 17, who was a passenger. Nashville firefighters extinguished the blaze and found both teens dead inside the car.
Metro Nashville police said two officers saw a black Infiniti sedan speeding and run a red light at Blue Hole Road and Bell Road at about 3:30 a.m. The officers tried to stop the car but were unable to catch it. They later found it overturned and burning in a wooded area near the community center.
A preliminary investigation found that the Infiniti crested a hill, lost control, crossed into oncoming lanes and struck a tree before landing upside down in the woods, where it caught fire, police said.
