Sparta marine business loses main building and shop in overnight blaze
A fire at Center Hill Sports Marine destroyed its main building, rear shop and a pickup truck Friday evening. Firefighters kept the flames from reaching a nearby building holding new pontoon boats; no injuries were reported.
A fire tore through Center Hill Sports Marine on Sparta Highway in Sparta on Friday evening, destroying the dealership’s main building, its rear shop and everything inside, according to the DeKalb County Fire Department.
Fire crews were called at about 6 p.m. Oct. 16 and found heavy flames throughout the building. A pickup truck parked behind the business was also destroyed.
Firefighters contained the blaze before it reached a nearby building where several new pontoon boats were stored, the department said. The business was closed when the fire began, and no injuries were reported.
The department’s preliminary finding is that the fire started in the pickup truck. The cause remains under investigation.
