Nashville I-65 will shut down Oct. 16-19 for Hamilton Avenue bridge work

Both directions of I-65 will close for the entire weekend, including daytime hours, while crews demolish the Hamilton Avenue bridge deck. TDOT is also closing three nearby entrance ramps to ease traffic merging onto I-440.

Nashville I-65 will shut down Oct. 16-19 for Hamilton Avenue bridge work

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Interstate 65 will be closed in both directions through part of Nashville from 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, until 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 19, while crews demolish the Hamilton Avenue bridge deck.

The closure will cover the stretch between the I-40 interchange at Exit 210 and an area near the I-440 interchange at Exit 80. I-65 will remain closed during the day as well as overnight.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation has added three entrance-ramp closures to its traffic plan: the northbound I-65 ramp from Armory Drive and the northbound and southbound I-65 ramps from Powell Avenue. TDOT says the closures are intended to reduce conflicts as traffic merges onto I-440 during the work.

Drivers should plan for extra travel time, consider other routes and follow detour signs. Message boards and overhead signs will provide closure information.

After the weekend shutdown, construction on the replacement bridge deck will continue, with intermittent overnight I-65 lane closures expected from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. The Hamilton Avenue bridge will remain closed to vehicles and pedestrians until construction is finished, which is expected in December.

The work schedule is weather-dependent. TDOT urges motorists to slow down and move over in work zones.
