Wisconsin Green Party candidate faces disorderly conduct charge over driving dispute

Matthew Arndt, a Green Party candidate for Wisconsin’s 6th Congressional District, was charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct after a road-rage confrontation described in court records. The drivers gave investigators conflicting accounts of who initiated the dispute; a video recorded later at a gas station shows Arndt shouting profanities and criticizing Israel.

Wisconsin Green Party candidate faces disorderly conduct charge over driving dispute
Green Party congressional candidate Matthew Arndt faces a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge stemming from a driving dispute on Mequon Road, according to court records made public in October 2026. The complaint says a driver traveling east with his 5-year-old son told investigators Arndt tailgated him. When the road widened to two lanes, the driver alleged, Arndt pulled alongside, accelerated, shouted a profanity about Israel and made an obscene gesture. The driver said he returned the gesture and accused Arndt of forcing his vehicle toward oncoming traffic before he slowed down and let Arndt pass. The other driver said he believed a bumper sticker on his vehicle—a sticker bearing an Israeli flag and a profane message directed at Hamas—prompted the confrontation, court records state. Arndt disputed the account of his driving. He told police he noticed the sticker after the other driver repeatedly hit the brakes in front of him. Arndt also said he feared the man might follow him to places where his children were, and acknowledged being emotionally upset, according to the complaint. A video recorded afterward at a gas station shows Arndt shouting profanities and saying he was running for Congress in Wisconsin’s 6th District. Arndt told WISN the other driver followed him there and harassed him. The person who recorded the video acknowledged following Arndt to the station but told investigators that Arndt had started the confrontation by tailgating, the records say. In statements to police, Arndt denied being antisemitic and said he had Jewish friends who agreed with his views, according to the complaint. Arndt is seeking the seat held by Republican U.S. Rep. Glenn Grothman. The disorderly conduct charge carries a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail and a fine of up to $1,000. The allegations have not been proven in court.
