A 58-year-old woman died late Tuesday after a vehicle fleeing a Germantown police stop crashed in Milwaukee’s Hampton Heights neighborhood, authorities said.
The crash happened around 11 p.m. near North 46th Street and West Fairmount Avenue. Milwaukee police said Germantown officers tried to stop the vehicle because it was connected to a criminal investigation, but the driver sped away and a pursuit continued into Milwaukee. The vehicle struck a pole near the intersection.
The woman, a passenger, died at the scene, police said. The 50-year-old driver suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the victim was a woman; neither person’s identity has been released.
The collision also damaged a fence around Jimmy Banks Memorial Stadium. Police have not disclosed details about the investigation that led officers to attempt the stop. The crash remains under investigation, and the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office is expected to review the case for possible charges.
