Milwaukee teen remains in custody after fatal shooting of 4-year-old sister
A 16-year-old was ordered held after his 4-year-old sister, Jurnee Walker-Scales, was fatally shot at a Milwaukee home Saturday. Court records say investigators also found a second firearm that was not properly secured.
A Milwaukee County court commissioner ordered a 16-year-old to remain in custody Monday, two days after his 4-year-old sister was fatally shot at a home near North 53rd and West Center streets.
Police said a 6-year-old sibling got hold of a gun and fired it Saturday morning. Jurnee Walker-Scales was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The 16-year-old was arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm. Juvenile court records identify him only as “JW” and allege he knew his siblings had been playing with a gun. Those allegations have not been proven in court.
Police found a second weapon in the home after the shooting. It had been hidden but was not properly locked, court records show. Police are not seeking additional suspects.
The teen is scheduled to return to court Friday and remains in custody.
