Chalk portrait of Jackson Chourio brings Brewers’ World Series buzz downtown

A 10-by-10-foot chalk portrait of Milwaukee Brewers left fielder Jackson Chourio is drawing attention at the Chase Tower plaza downtown as the team plays in the World Series.

Artist Katie Bogan created the work, located near Water and Michigan streets. It is her first art commission from the city of Milwaukee, and organizers expect it to remain on view through the series if weather allows.

Bogan, who moved to Milwaukee about a year ago, said she was not much of a sports fan before arriving. To choose a player for the mural, she asked her Instagram followers to name their favorite Brewer. About 80% backed Chourio, she said.

Bogan has been making chalk art since she was 8. Her portrait brings a piece of the city’s postseason excitement into the downtown public space, where fans and passersby can encounter it outside the ballpark.
