Milwaukee officer-involved shooting: 17-year-old wounded in Walker Square
Milwaukee police released body-camera footage Wednesday from an officer-involved shooting that left a 17-year-old with a leg wound. The teen faces three charges after officers responded to a report of gunfire near Walker Square.
Milwaukee police released body-camera video Wednesday from the Sept. 30 shooting of a 17-year-old in the Walker Square neighborhood, where the teen was wounded by an officer and later charged with several offenses.
Police said officers were sent to the area of 15th Street and West Greenfield Avenue at about 9:21 p.m. after a report of shots fired. Chief Jeffrey Norman said residents directed officers toward people leaving on dirt bikes. Officers followed the group to an alley near Seventh and West Scott streets as they investigated the gunfire.
Police said officers saw a masked person carrying a rifle who ran from the scene. Norman said an officer tried to stop the person and repeatedly ordered him to drop the rifle before firing. Officers recovered a rifle next to the injured teenager, police said.
The teen was taken to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. His father identified him as Jouthem Rodriguez LaCourt and said he had been shot in the leg.
Prosecutors charged LaCourt with felony second-degree recklessly endangering safety, resisting or obstructing an officer, and possession of a dangerous weapon. The charges are allegations, and the filing does not establish guilt.
The officer who fired is a 26-year-old man with more than three years on the force. Police placed him on administrative duty, a routine step during an officer-involved shooting investigation.
