MILWAUKEE — Marquette University Police issued a safety alert Monday evening after a person displayed a weapon during an argument near North 16th Street and West Wells Street, according to university officials. Police posted an alert shortly before 6:30 p.m. about an armed person in the area. A university spokesperson said the incident began with a verbal altercation involving two people. The suspect produced a weapon while the argument continued, then fled, the spokesperson said. About 30 minutes after the alert, police said the area was clear and there was no ongoing threat to campus. The suspect was no longer within the Marquette University Police Department’s patrol zone, according to the university. Officials did not specify the type of weapon or say whether anyone was injured. It was not clear Monday night whether an arrest had been made.
