Franklin club’s contents go up for auction as trafficking case moves through court

FRANKLIN, Wis. — Bar stools, kitchen equipment, gambling machines, artwork and hundreds of bottles of liquor are among the items being sold in an online auction after On the Border Gentleman's Club closed in Franklin in July.

The two-day auction was scheduled to end Tuesday, Oct. 27. The club’s outdoor sign had drawn a high bid of $1,100 as of Monday, Oct. 26. Other items listed for sale included a pool table, tables and chairs, bar equipment, an ATM, signage and several poles.

The auction follows a yearslong investigation involving allegations of human trafficking, prostitution and money laundering. Franklin’s City Council voted in July to revoke the business licenses, and the club then closed permanently. The city said it has no role in the sale; the former business owner is selling the property.

Franklin police reported that more than 15 women were trafficked at the club. Criminal cases against four people associated with On the Border are proceeding in court. Three people already facing charges were also charged Friday with additional offenses, including racketeering and conspiracy.

In June, Mayor John Nelson said he wanted the legal process to be fair and observed, “And then you're asking me if I believe we should have a strip club in Franklin. And my answer is no.”
