OAK CREEK, Wis. — A pursuit that began in Caledonia and crossed into Oak Creek ended around midnight when a stolen car carrying four teenagers crashed into a pond near Highway 32 and Oakwood Road, police said. The Caledonia officer initially tried to stop the vehicle because it had no license plates. Police said the driver refused to stop and reached speeds of more than 80 mph before losing control and entering the pond. The vehicle had been reported stolen in Green Bay. All four occupants escaped the water and ran from the crash, according to Caledonia police Lt. Rob Mueller. Oak Creek officers helped arrest three of them, while Caledonia police K9 Rip located and apprehended a 16-year-old girl. The girl was taken to a hospital for treatment of a dog bite and later released. Mueller said the pond was not deep enough to fully submerge the vehicle, and the occupants were able to get out without suffering life-threatening injuries. Police identified the driver as a 17-year-old who did not have a valid driver's license. The passengers included two other 16-year-olds and a 15-year-old boy who had been reported missing from Green Bay just hours before the traffic stop. The missing teen was returned to juvenile authorities in Green Bay, while two of the other teenagers were released to their parents. The driver was booked into the Racine County Jail. The available information did not include specific criminal charges. Mueller called the pursuit extremely dangerous, saying the driver put the three passengers at significant risk. He also said the incident was a first for him because of the unusual combination of a high-speed pursuit, a pond crash and a K9 apprehension. Wyatt Habbal, who said the vehicle belonged to him, is seeking accountability from the teenagers and their parents. Police did not report any serious injuries to the occupants or officers.
