A federal grand jury has indicted three men on wire fraud charges over an alleged scheme to raise $750,000 from three pharmacists for a proposed COVID-19 test manufacturing facility, prosecutors say. The indictment alleges Kurt Wise presented himself as representing Liberty Development, a real estate company with a mailing address in Mount Pleasant, and persuaded the pharmacists to invest in the planned factory. Instead, prosecutors allege, the money went toward other business dealings, including payments to co-defendants Carl Wise and Keith Begin. Each of the three men faces a federal wire fraud charge. The charges are allegations; the indictment does not establish guilt.
