Several people died when a small, single-engine plane crashed Tuesday night near Mirror Lake State Park in Sauk County, authorities said.
The aircraft went down near Park Lane in the Town of Dellona at about 9:30 p.m. Oct. 13. Sauk County Sheriff Chip Meister said dispatchers received reports of a downed plane at about 9:31 p.m. Deputies and emergency crews found the wreckage, where multiple people were involved.
“Multiple individuals have been confirmed deceased,” Meister said in a statement Wednesday morning. Officials had not released the victims’ identities or the confirmed death toll as of Wednesday morning.
Flight-tracking data indicated the plane departed Kenosha Regional Airport shortly before 9 p.m. Earlier reports suggested as many as six people may have been on board, but authorities had not confirmed the number.
The crash site remained secured while investigators worked to determine what happened. The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board were notified and are expected to assist with the investigation.
