A Boca Raton man was arrested Thursday after leaving a death threat against U.S. Rep. Jared Moskowitz in a voicemail at the congressman’s Coral Springs office, according to Moskowitz’s office and the lawmaker’s public statement.
The caller threatened to slit Moskowitz’s throat, his office said. The suspect was booked into the Palm Beach County jail, according to Moskowitz. His identity has not been released, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating.
Moskowitz, a Democrat who represents Florida’s 23rd Congressional District, has faced threats before. In 2024, authorities thwarted an alleged assassination plot that targeted the congressman and the Jewish community. John Lapinski Jr., 41, later pleaded guilty in connection with the plot. Investigators found weapons at Lapinski’s home and Moskowitz’s name among the evidence, according to prior reporting. Lapinski faces a maximum sentence of 43 years in prison.
