A second suspect has been arrested in the kidnapping and killing of Eddrick Malik Bethune, who investigators say was taken from a North Miami apartment complex by men posing as police officers and later shot to death in southwest Miami-Dade County.

Naquon Jahrell Fagan, 25, was arrested Thursday and booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, according to an arrest report. He faces seven felony charges, including first-degree murder, armed kidnapping, attempted first-degree murder and impersonating a police officer resulting in death. Jail records listed his bond as “to be set.”

Investigators say Fagan rented the gray Toyota Camry used in the abduction. Rental records showed it was rented in his name from Oct. 2 through Oct. 4, the day Bethune was killed. Detectives also cited cellphone location data and surveillance footage that they say placed Fagan near locations connected to the crime.

The arrest report says investigators found a tag for gloves in the Camry and later obtained store video showing Fagan buying black gloves hours before the killing. Detectives said footage of the abduction showed one of the suspects wearing black gloves.

Bethune, 22, was taken early Oct. 4 from the Aliro apartment complex at 14040 Biscayne Blvd. in North Miami. Investigators say Fagan, 21-year-old Devorise Carl Johnson and three other men arrived the previous evening and waited for Bethune to leave his building.

Shortly after midnight, the group allegedly approached Bethune in the Camry, which had flashing red and blue lights. Two armed men wearing clothing marked “POLICE” ordered him to the ground and handcuffed him, investigators say. They took his cellphone and apartment keys; three members of the group then entered his apartment using the keys.

Inside, gunfire broke out between the intruders and a second person in the apartment, according to investigators. Three men fled through a third-floor bedroom window. The men waiting outside forced Bethune into the Camry as he tried to get away, the report says.

Investigators say the group drove Bethune to the Redlands, where he was shot multiple times. A Miami-Dade sheriff’s captain found his body near Southwest 216th Street and Southwest 189th Avenue at about 7:25 a.m. Oct. 4. The medical examiner ruled his death a homicide. Authorities say the suspects later set the Camry on fire in an attempt to destroy evidence.

Johnson, the first person arrested in the case, was taken into custody earlier in October and faces the same seven charges. The arrest report does not say whether the remaining three suspects have been identified or arrested.
