Miami-Dade Homicide Detectives Probe Death of Girl at Homestead Home
A girl was pronounced dead at a Homestead residence Saturday afternoon after first responders found her needing medical attention, prompting Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office homicide detectives to take over the investigation. Authorities have not said whether foul play is suspected.
HOMESTEAD, Fla. â Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office homicide detectives are investigating the death of a girl at a home in Homestead, authorities said Sunday.
Homestead police and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews responded at about 3:30 p.m. Saturday to a residence in the area of Northwest 12th Avenue and Ninth Court, where they found the girl in need of medical attention, according to an MDSO spokesperson. The agency did not disclose the girl's age.
"Despite lifesaving efforts, the (girl) was pronounced deceased on scene," the spokesperson said in an email.
The Sheriff's Office's Homicide Bureau has since assumed control of the case. As of Sunday morning, authorities had not said whether they suspect foul play, and no further details about the circumstances of the death were released.
The investigation is unfolding in a residential neighborhood near the heart of Homestead, a community already grappling with the kinds of pressures â rising housing costs, strained public services and a growing sense that families need more support â that often weigh heaviest on parents and children. News of a child's death in a quiet neighborhood can ripple quickly through a tight-knit city, and residents will be looking to law enforcement for clarity in the days ahead.
MDSO has not released the girl's identity or said whether anyone else was at the home when emergency crews arrived. It was also unclear Sunday whether the case is being treated as a criminal matter or a medical emergency, a distinction that could shape how the investigation proceeds.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers, where tips can be submitted anonymously. The case remains active, and detectives are asking the public to come forward with any details that could help explain what happened.
