Miami Beach man arrested after North Beach business break-ins

A 57-year-old man was arrested in Miami Beach after detectives used surveillance footage to identify him as a suspect in several North Beach business burglaries, police said.

Kevin Reilley was taken into custody without incident on Oct. 19. Investigators said he was wearing shorts, boots and a backpack similar to items seen in the video footage.

One of the cases occurred about 7:28 a.m. Oct. 16 at 7TY ONE, a business at 1130 Normandy Drive. According to the arrest report, a man allegedly broke the store’s glass front door with a rock, entered the unoccupied business and removed a cash-register drawer containing about $450.

Detectives reviewing that footage noticed similarities to video from another commercial burglary under investigation in the area, the report said. In a separate case, a man allegedly entered a business through its main door, went to the register, tried to open it, then pulled it out and left.

Police said Reilley faces multiple charges, including burglary of an unoccupied structure while masked, possession of burglary tools, criminal mischief and petit theft. The charges are allegations; the arrest does not establish guilt.

“Protecting our businesses and holding offenders accountable are priorities for this department,” Police Chief Wayne A. Jones said in a department statement. He said the arrest reflected officers’ and detectives’ work and their commitment to North Beach’s safety.
