Miramar teen identified man accused of trying to abduct her at Shell station, police say

A 32-year-old man was arrested after police say he tried to abduct a 13-year-old girl from a Shell gas station in Miramar.

Michael Polanco was arrested Monday in connection with the incident at 2840 S. State Road 7, according to police. An arrest report says a witness saw Polanco grab the girl by the neck and try to walk away with her.

Police said Polanco initially fled the gas station. Officers later found and detained him, and the girl and witness each identified him as the person involved, authorities said.

Polanco was taken to the Broward County Main Jail and charged with battery causing bodily harm and kidnapping involving bodily harm or terrorizing a victim. After a court appearance Tuesday, he was ordered held without bond. Police said his prior criminal history includes robbery, burglary, battery and exposure of sexual organs. The allegations have not been proven in court.
