Dane County proposal sets aside $3 million for sheriff’s body cameras
County Executive Melissa Agard’s proposed $946.8 million budget for 2027 includes $3 million for body-worn cameras, alongside funding for housing, conservation, voting equipment and infrastructure. The spending plan is a proposal, not an approved budget.
Dane County Executive Melissa Agard’s proposed 2027 budget would provide $3 million for body-worn cameras for the Dane County Sheriff’s Office, part of a $946.8 million spending plan released Oct. 1.
The proposal includes an $861 million operating budget and $85.8 million for capital projects. Agard said the county can maintain services residents rely on while managing its finances responsibly.
Other proposed investments include $20 million for the Affordable Housing Development Fund and $10 million for the Dane County Conservation Fund. The plan also allocates $3.5 million for new voting equipment for the county clerk’s office and $17.3 million for county highway projects, including work on roads and bridges.
The budget also proposes airport parking expansion, terminal modernization and noise mitigation; accessible fishing and boating improvements at Babcock County Park; and $2.1 million to support the Salvation Army’s new shelter for women and families experiencing homelessness.
The allocations remain proposals and would depend on the county budget process for approval.
