Wisconsin Heights Schools Investigating Contracted Athletic Trainer, Placed on Leave
The Wisconsin Heights School District has placed contracted athletic trainer Paige Tews on an approved leave of absence from Sauk Prairie Health Care while it investigates concerns about her conduct, but officials declined to specify what prompted the review, citing privacy and confidentiality.
MAZOMANIE, Wis. â The Wisconsin Heights School District has placed its contracted athletic trainer on an approved leave of absence and opened an investigation into concerns about her conduct, the district told families in an email Friday.
Paige Tews, who works with the district through Sauk Prairie Health Care, is on approved leave from that role, according to the district. Tews is not a school district employee; she provides athletic training services under a contract with the health care provider.
The district said it is looking into concerns regarding Tews' conduct but did not describe what those concerns are. Officials said privacy and confidentiality obligations prevent them from sharing additional details at this time.
The announcement leaves families and student-athletes with limited public information about the nature of the review or how long it might take. Athletic trainers are a regular presence at high school sporting events and practices, working directly with student-athletes on injury prevention, treatment and recovery, which makes the circumstances of any personnel review a matter of interest to parents and teams.
The district did not say whether a replacement trainer has been arranged or how athletic training coverage will be handled during Tews' absence. It also did not indicate who is conducting the investigation or when it expects to complete it.
Sauk Prairie Health Care did not immediately comment on the leave or the district's review.
Wisconsin Heights, based in Mazomanie, serves students from several communities in Dane and Iowa counties. The district's email to families marks the first public acknowledgment of the investigation.
