VERONA, Wis. — Visitors to the Verona Public Library can take a closer look at the moon’s rugged surface through “A New Moon Rises,” a Smithsonian traveling exhibit that opened Sept. 14. The exhibit features more than 50 images captured by NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, a spacecraft launched in 2009 to study the moon. The photographs are arranged around six themes: global views, exploration sites, discoveries, vistas, topography and craters. The display is spread throughout the library because of the size of the images, said Maureen Hilquist, the library’s adult programming librarian. “We were a little intimidated by the size of a lot of these images,” Hilquist said, describing the work of moving and organizing the pieces into sections. “A New Moon Rises” will remain at the library through Oct. 27. Additional space-focused programming is planned while the exhibit is on view, with event information available through the Verona Public Library’s online calendar.
