Palmyra road crew member injured in crash at West Main and Fourth
A Palmyra public works employee was taken to a hospital for evaluation after being struck by a vehicle Monday morning while preparing to paint intersection markings. Police cited the driver, who remained at the scene.
A Palmyra Department of Public Works employee was injured Monday morning after a vehicle struck them while they were preparing to paint road lines at West Main and Fourth streets, city officials said.
Jefferson County 911 Communications sent Palmyra Public Safety to the intersection shortly after 10:15 a.m. following a report of someone lying in the roadway. Public Safety Director Paul Blount said the employee was preparing to paint lines when the collision occurred.
Two department vehicles and several public works employees were in the area. The workers were wearing bright green reflective clothing, according to Palmyra Public Safety.
The employee was alert and able to answer questions before being taken to a hospital for evaluation. The driver stayed at the scene and spoke with officers. Palmyra police issued the driver a citation, Blount said; officials did not provide further details about the citation or the employee’s condition.
Blount urged drivers to slow down and remain attentive when traveling through work zones, where crews may be working in or near traffic.
