Two southern Wisconsin high school teachers have received national awards recognizing their work in skilled-trades education, with each award totaling $75,000 for the teacher and their school program. Pam Allen, who teaches at Mount Horeb High School, and Allan Ballweg, an instructor at Sauk Prairie High School, were surprised with the awards at ceremonies held at their schools Tuesday, Sept. 29. The awards are part of the Harbor Freight Tools for Schools program, which recognizes teachers and supports their trade programs. Allen said skilled-trades careers can provide fulfilling work and family-supporting wages. She said the award will help students get a strong start as they enter those fields. The program said it aims to raise awareness of skilled trades and the educators who prepare students for them, as demand for trade workers grows. Allen and Ballweg were among 25 teachers across the country selected for awards.
