Bullitt East edges Male 41-38 in overtime to claim district title

Bullitt East won its first district title since 2022 with a 41-38 overtime victory over Male on Friday, Oct. 23, in a high-scoring matchup between two Louisville-area football programs.

Running back Brayden Carby finished the game with a 2-yard touchdown run in overtime, after carrying the ball three times in a row. The victory gives the Chargers home-field advantage for at least the first two rounds of the playoffs.

The teams combined for 56 points in the first half, then went scoreless in the third quarter before exchanging touchdowns in the fourth. Male’s Tyson Kinsel tied the game at 35 with a 35-yard touchdown run with 2:53 left in regulation. It was his third rushing touchdown of the night.

Bullitt East coach Keegan Kendrick said the matchup has served as a measure of his team’s progress since it moved to Class 6A in 2019. He called Male a standard-setter in public-school football and said competing with the Bulldogs was a goal for the Chargers.

Bullitt East is scheduled to host Meade County in its final regular-season game next week. Male is set to face DuPont Manual in the teams’ Old Rivalry matchup.
