Okolona officer shooting of 15-year-old under investigation; teen expected to survive

A Louisville officer shot a 15-year-old on Cutler Road after police say the teen fired a rifle at his mother and the officer. The teen is expected to survive, and the officer is on administrative leave as LMPD investigates.

A 15-year-old wounded by a Louisville Metro Police officer in Okolona is expected to survive, police said Thursday, Oct. 8. The shooting happened around 4 p.m. Monday in the 3700 block of Cutler Road. LMPD said officers had responded to a report of a mother who was injured. As an officer spoke with her, police said, her son arrived carrying a rifle and fired toward her and the officer. According to LMPD, the officer moved the mother to safety and told the teen to put down the weapon. Police said the teen fired again, and the officer returned fire, hitting him several times. The teen was taken to a hospital and underwent surgery Monday night. LMPD identified the officer as Brian Thompson, who has been placed on administrative leave while the department’s Public Integrity Unit investigates. LMPD said it expects to release body-camera footage within 10 business days. The department has not provided further details about the investigation in the information released so far.
