Louisville St. X senior runs Chicago Marathon after spinal injury
Wyatt Anderson finished the Chicago Marathon in 3:56:28, less than a year after fracturing his spine in a fall. He ran alongside his brother, and the two raised more than $22,000 for spinal cord injury research.
Louisville’s Wyatt Anderson crossed the finish line of the Chicago Marathon on Sunday in 3:56:28, less than a year after a fall left him paralyzed and recovering from a fractured spine.
Anderson, a senior at St. X High School, was playing basketball with friends last November when he fell headfirst into a wall. He underwent surgery to fuse his spine and gradually regained movement during weeks of physical therapy.
After completing the Kentucky Derby Festival miniMarathon in April, Anderson set his sights on Chicago. He ran the 26.2-mile race alongside his brother, among roughly 55,000 participants.
The brothers also raised more than $22,000 for the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, which supports spinal cord injury research.
